EQ – stacking Manley EQs

This evening’s job was applying much needed EQ to some specific instruments on various album mixes for Collidium.  Specifically, the guitar tracks on ‘Breathe’ and Guitar and Keys for ‘The Cold Monster’.  I found the Langevin (Manley) Mini Massive just the ticket to take the harsh fuzz from the high end of the guitars on ‘Breathe’ whilst a solid helping of chug was added with a bell boost in the mids.

Patched in EQs - dual Manley Labs - a modest boost

Next and while on a roll, I patched in the Manley Mid-EQ  before one channel of the mini massive for extra EQ flexibility.  That monster guitar is not in need of much help at all – but the keyboards needed some taming.

Browsing through the excellent Transoniq Hacker, this beautiful start to an article by Kirk Slinkard, on using the SQ80:

Yes, the Ensoniq SQ80 considered a dinosaur, the year ... 1996.

There is serious gold to be found in the pages of this vintage Magazine and Rainer and crew have done a splendid job, via the user-group, to obtain and scan copies of almost ALL the editions.  Well done folks!!!
